Seeing an image as a performance may work best through demonstration.

This is an image scanned from a newspaper photo in January 2002 from the Dallas Morning News. Students are invited to examine it for its elements, or the portions which can be isolated for analysis. Generally they note the girls’ ages and physical appearance, including their costume, the act of the moment involving the two girls at center and right looking at the book held by the girl at the left, the setting, and so on.
