administration

This section provides some details about the administrative work I do at SVSU. I provide this information primarily to show the kind and variety of activities with which I am involved here. If you see anything here that inspires you to contact me to provide feedback or ask questions, please feel free to follow up.

The listings for this work are divided into three categories: programmatic work (directly connected to the Professional and Technical Writing programs), departmental work (connected to the English department), and university work.

programmatic work (for ptw at svsu)

I have been active in the daily workings of SVSU's Professional and Technical Writing programs since arriving on campus during the summer of 2005. This section provides an annotated listing of those activities.

Curriculum Design. We have retooled both the major and minor over several stages, resulting in a very solid and responsive undergraduate curriculum. The changes to the major are presented in the linked document (PTW_Major_2006.pdf), which lists the courses included in both the 2005 and 2006 curricula.

Undergraduate Journal. We are in the process of developing an undergraduate journal to provide an outlet for scholarly and professional articles by and for students and recent graduates.

The Association of Professional and Technical Writers (APTW). Students launched a professional society during the 2005–06 academic year. I participate in an advisory capacity. If you want to know more about it, please contact me.

Program Assessment. The PTW committee within the English department will begin formal assessment procedures of student work in Winter 2007. I am a part of that activity.

departmental work (for english at svsu)

My primary work in the department focuses on the PTW programs. But I have also participated in other committees and initiatives as well. I have served on three hiring committees, on the departmental advisory group, and on the first-year writing committee.

university work

I participate in a variety of committees and initiatives around the university. I provide a partial listing here.

Teaching and Learning with Technology Roundtable: Student Technology Initiatives Action Team. Even the acronym is long (TLTR: STIAT), but the work is core the university's mission regarding the integration of technology into the educational process. I co-chair the Action Team. Among our activities this year is a consideration of undergraduate certification with university standard technologies, and other issues that arise from within the university teaching and learning communities.

Teaching and Learning with Technology Roundtable: VSpace Transition Team. Due to my involvement on the STIAT, I have also become involved in this group. We are charged with facilitating the transition from Blackboard to Vspace.
