Quadrilaterals
February 7, 2003; 10:15 - 11:15 a.m.
Introduction: (10 minutes) None of the students had used this software before. A brief introduction will be given.
Part I: (15 minutes) Each student constructed one of the quadrilaterals; Square, Rhombus, Rectangle, Parallelogram, Isosceles Trapezoid, or Kite using Geometer's Sketchpad. Follow the instructions to construct one of the quadrilaterals listed.
Part II: (20 minutes) Investigating Properties of Quadrilaterals. Utilizing the measurement and dynamic capabilities of the software, students identified and verified properties of the quadrilateral. They then wrote these properties using the following Key Words in the table below.
| Sides of the quadrilateral | Vertex angles of the quadrilateral: | Diagonals of the quadrilateral: |
| Parallel | Congruent | Bisect |
| Perpendicular | Right | Perpendicular |
| Congruent | Supplementary | Perpendicular Bisector |
| Opposite and adjacent | Complementary | Congruent |
| Opposite and Consecutive |
Part III: (10minutes) Five students constructed each quadrilateral and investigated the properties. The combined efforts of each quadrilateral team were saved and the one-hour lab results are below.
Part IV: (5minutes) Properties of quadrilaterals will be read and groups will identify whether their quadrilateral has that property or not.
