Creative Writing Workshops in the Saginaw Correctional Facility

Through our “Writing From the Inside Out” program, SVSU Writing Center tutors have facilitated ten-week workshops for the Level One inmates at the Saginaw Correctional Facility each fall and winter semester for the past three years. Over 30 inmates have participated in these workshops, which focus on writing fiction and poetry. This program was originally sponsored by a grant from Michigan Campus Compact, and it is now supported by the SVSU College of Arts and Behavioral Sciences. The work generated in these workshops has been featured in Writing@SVSU and other publications.
