High School Writing Workshops

Writing is an integral part of high school; it’s an even more important part of college.  This is one reason why applying to college is a writing-intensive process: completing a successful essay for the SAT, crafting a compelling college application essay, and writing an effective scholarship essay are all tasks most college-bound students need to complete. Here at the CCW, we're here to help.  An SVSU faculty or staff can come to your school to help your students with these types of essays—just contact us to learn more.

Writing the SAT Essay

Provides an overview of the SAT essay and scoring rubric, test-taking strategies, common errors, and the opportunity to write the timed essay and receive general feedback.

Optional: Additional Individual SAT Feedback

Designed to supplement the “Writing the SAT Workshop,” this additional session provides individual scoring on the practice essay, with written feedback for each writer.

Writing College Scholarship Essays

Provides a general overview for writing scholarship essays, writing strategies, common errors, and the opportunity to write and receive general feedback.

Writing the Common Application

Provides a general overview for writing the common application for college admissions, writing strategies, common errors, and the opportunity to write and receive general feedback.

Note: All workshops are held on site at the school and are designed for 5-25 students. Workshop fees include all necessary materials. If a workshop is held more than 15 miles away from SVSU’s campus, mileage costs may be added.
